FB1i

The FB1 was the first wholly domestic model from the PMC stable. From its humble drawing-board beginnings to the present day it has become an audio legend, winning awards on all continents from the leading audiophile critics. The FB1 has even received critical acclaim from respected professional magazines for its ability as a true reference-recording monitor.

The series upgrades of the new SONOLEX™ tweeter, PMC designed bass driver, improved cabinet integrity and optimised crossover network has once again raised the bar in what can be achieved in a 2-Way floorstanding speaker. These significant technical improvements give greater speed, transparency and a wider window onto the performance whether it is music or movie surround.

The FB1, with its 6 1/2 bass unit and extended ATL™ provides a deeper and richer feel than the smaller models and therefore excels in a medium to large listening room.

From the Bristol Sound & Vision Show 2008 i series launch:

“Once again, I congratulate you on a marvelous demonstration at the show and I now appreciate why both the press and the trade hold you in such high regard. ”

“I found the PMC demo where they were playing Marvin Gaye singing without the backing track really interesting.”

“Saw the walnut on Saturday at the sound and vision show, thought they looked absolutely spectacular.”

“PMC - VERY impressive”

“I thought these sounded fabulous - very musical. In fact I thought all of the speakers they demoed sounded great. Did you notice that the PMC assistants appeared to be the only ones actually moving around to the music.”

"the speakers are amazing in every way."
Mr W, London

"Before choosing the FB1i's, from my local dealer Basically Sound & Vision in Norfolk, I listened to speakers from Naim, Kudos, Leema & Rega. All of these speakers shared some great qualities but on listening to the PMC's i realised that these really were in a different league.

These are great sounding speakers, manufactured to a very hgh standard with a beautiful oak finish.

Most of all I'm proud to say that my whole system is 100% British. "
Mr J, Attleborough

"i bought these speakers after reading reviews on the older models.i can say that i have been blown away by them if you can afford them buy them they will not disappoint."
Mr C, Rushden

"I must say I am very very pleased so far, early days yet and I guess not fully “run in”.
I bought them totally blind and untested entirely on advice from Tim at Shadow Audio in Glenrothes.
He recommended them and in fact he recommended the whole system.
They are linked to a Creek Destiny integrated amp and my main source of listening is via a Sonos system utilising a Buffalo 500Gb hard drive together with Napster.
Both of which seem to work very well.
I also have the matching Creek cd player for my cd collection and an old turntable for occasional vinyl.
Great speakers, very nicely finished"
Peter, Northumberland

"I have been listening to the FB1is for a few weeks now and they are absolutely amazing. I am tremendously pleased. I listen mostly to 60s and 70s vinyl and these speakers have brought the music back to life. The soundstage is phenomenal and the presentation is soft and sweet. I find myself digging out old albums I haven't listened to in years just to see how good they'll sound and I haven't been disappointed. The FBI1s are good enough that they even make CDs sound acceptable! "
Mr S, Canada

"The speakers are very good, exibit a very detailed mid / top range with well extended controlled bass lines. in my opinion, within their price range I think they are the probably the best speakers available"
Mr R, Inverclyde

"Absolutely best speakers I have heard.

Made more improvement to sound than amp/Cd player change"
Mr M, Lancashire

"The FB1i speakers are a replacement for my old Castle Chesters which have served me well and which I thought would be hard to beat. However, I was very wrong. The FB1i has given me exactly what I was looking for; extended and well controlled bass response together with sweet and rounded treble. The overall impression is one of impressive musicality across all genre's. The FB!i's particularly excel when it comes to faithful rendition of great jazz recordings such as those by Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt."
Mr J, Kent

"There’s only one word to sum my feelings after having the FB1i for a while now. “SUPERB”.

The quality of finish is excellent and they look magnificent. Cabinet proportions mean they look commanding but not over stated and they blend into the room.

After running them in the sound is equally balanced and commanding. They certainly allow my Naim amplification to deliver what it’s capable of (CD player shows it’s limitations though) and I’m looking forward to finishing setting up my Linn…sounds good so far.

A very satisfied customer"
Mr W, Surrey

"Fit and finish is outstanding. Looking forward to the developing sound"
Mr T, Norwich

"They sound great, despite not being run in yet and still fed by my old Arcam alpha6 and old audiolab in a room too small"
Mr S, Dorset

"Speakers have not yet really run in fully however tremendous sound and quality."
Mr P, West Glamorgan

"Since purchasing the FB1i's I've been rediscovering music in my CD collection. Compared to my previous speakers everything sounds so much better.... and very well produced recordings sound wonderful.. I'm delighted with these beautiful loudspeakers and would recommend them to any serious music lover."
Mr R, Ontario

“Exceptional - very real, unbiased and full on. Can be driven to high volumes without losing their consistency or sounding harsh; always want to put them on!”
Mr F, Kent

“Straight out of the box these sound absolutely wonderful”
Mr M, Tyne & Wear

“Bought the FB1i’s as part of a general system upgrade following demise of my old Bryston 12b pre-amp. Probably a 25% improvement in every way over my 10-year-old Castle Harlechs. Deeper yet controlled bass, wide almost touchable stereo soundstage, revealing more in well recorded CDs than I've ever heard before. Beautiful match for my old Bryston 3B power amp and the replacement SP25 pre-amp.”
My FB1i's were built by Wayne so please pass on my regards - in football parlance , the boy done good. Cheers”
Mr C, Stratford-upon-Avon

“Great full room sound. I can identify each instrument. Tone is natural no artificial HIFI enhancements. Bass refined and evident without being boomie. They have rekindled my enthusiasm for listening to music!!”
Mr D, Nottingham

“After running the speakers in they sound wonderful, really really pleased”.
Mr A, Wirral

"After running the speakers in they sound wonderful, really really pleased."
Mr A, Merseyside

"Early impression I have made an excellent choice"
Mr B, Essex

"Only just running them in at the moment, however already very impressed indeed. These FBIi's have replaced my existing Mission 753's, which have migrated to become my rear speakers, replacing the MIssion 752's.

Hope in due course to use these FBIi's as my rear speakers & replace them with OBIi's"
Mr B, Hemel Hempstead

"Tried lots of other speakers but they didn\'t suit my Cyrus system. But with the FB1is, wow, what synergy. They make the electronics sound fabulous, and they are not yet fully run in!
A class product"
Mr S, Gateshead

“Utterly stunning. Everything from the finish to the amazing hair raising sound is impeccable. I even love how I can see the people who built my speakers for me! I cannot fault them!”
Mr C, Manchester

“Still running in,but so far Clarity ,imaging and speed and quality of sound exceed expectations ,both for music and movies.”
Mr J, Horsham

“I can't think of the right superlative to use to describe my FB1i's because I can't hear them, only the music. They produce the most spacious soundstage i've ever heard and I'm simply not aware of their presence.
Even placed close to a corner, the soundstage extends beyond the speakers. The space and amount of detail they convey is incredible yet they manage to be very musical at the same time. I've heard similar levels of detail before but the overall sound was clinical rather than involving me in the music.
What else can I say? They retain the sound balance across a range of volumes so are brilliant for late night listening and even more importantly, the wife likes the way they look!
The only criticism I have is that the 15 hours run in time specified in the manual is nowhere near long enough! Give them at least double this to show their true colours.
Finally I would summarize by saying that after almost 30 years of searching, I've finally found the speakers for me.”
Mr T, Bolton

!This is a direct replacement for the FB1+ that I've kept over the years despite being hit by the upgrade bug several times. I've owned B&W 803S and ProAC D28 but I ended up selling those as they did not provide the deep musical satisfaction I get from my FB1+. So logically, the next upgrade had to be to the new FB1i. Only a few hours of music through them yet but they deliver and I\'m very satisfied with my purchase. Thank's!!
Mr E, Sweden

“Detailed and transparent throughout the frequency range, can go loud without strain; and the VOICES!”
Mr W, Bedford

“Brilliant. Just brilliant. Coupled with Audiolab 8000AP and 8000X7 power amp and Oppo Blu-ray.”
Mr M, Eastleigh

“I spent some time comparing the FB1i to Epos, Spendor and ATC SCM40. Bang for buck the Epos where very good. However I found the midrange of the Epos and the Spendors to be laid back and so I found I was missing depth in vocals, especially male vocals. When compared to the ATC it was a harder decision. The ATC's bass was a lot meater and tighter then the FB1i, but so it should at 50% more. The ATC needed a lot more power than my Bryston B100 could produce.
In the end the FB1i won, because I found it to be a speaker I could live with everyday.
If I had more money, I would have like to have a listen to a slightly larger speaker, or should I say one with a bit more bass, OB1i or PB1i. I suppose I could always look at a musical subwoofer to extend the bottom end”
Mr H, Australia

“Right out of the box my wife and I noticed a huge improvement in the sound of the music in our listening room.”
Mr B, USA

“The sound on the PMC's is outstanding! Thank God for a front porting speaker to replace my other front porting speakers. Rear porting speakers were not an option in my current
configuration. The model I chose, the FBI 2 way speakers, were just the right size
for my room. They give me a lot of room to upgrade my other components
if I choose to do so. WOW !”
Mr z, Canada

“The FB1i's are still running in so I have yet to hear them in all their glory. Right now, they sound very poised and composed but I seem to get the sense that they are not extracting that very last bit of attack from the music. “
Mr J, Malaysia
